How EU Cup points work
Every discipline first records the dog’s actual result. The scoring rule attached to that competition then converts the result into points.
Result first, points second
- The result is recorded. This may be a time, distance, height, number of turns or duration.
- The competition rule is applied. The stored rule for that discipline uses the result and, where required, the dog’s measured height.
- The points are added. The same approved points contribute to the dog’s individual total and its team total.
The original result remains visible. Points do not replace the time, distance, height or turns achieved by the dog.
Low and High classes
The classes separate the individual standings. The discipline’s stored scoring formula still determines the points.
Why height is used in some disciplines
Jumping and climbing performances are compared with the dog’s measured height. This shows how large the performance is relative to the dog, instead of rewarding body size alone. Timed, turn-based and duration disciplines use their own formulas.
Teams and individuals
EU Cup is primarily a team competition. The approved points from every team dog and every discipline are added to the team total. Individual standings use the same points, grouped by Low and High class, without changing the official team result.
13 discipline calculations
These are the scoring-rule versions attached to the published EU Cup competition in the database.
| Discipline | Recorded result | How points are calculated |
|---|---|---|
| Long Jump | cm | Distance ÷ dog height × 10 |
| High Jump | cm | Jump height ÷ dog height × 20 |
| A-Frame | turns | Attempt 1 + attempt 2 + attempt 3 |
| Hangtime | min | Minutes × 5 |
| Trackmill | turns | Completed turns = points |
| Sprint 50 m | sec | Maximum of 0 or 50 − (seconds × 2) |
| Sprint 100 m | sec | Maximum of 0 or 100 − seconds |
| Sprint 350 m | sec | Maximum of 0 or 150 − seconds |
| Hurdle | sec | Maximum of 0 or 50 − (seconds × 2) |
| Hedge Jump | cm | Jump height ÷ dog height × 40 |
| Wallclimb | cm | Climb height ÷ dog height × 20 |
| Wooden Wall | cm | Climb height ÷ dog height × 20 |
| Slatmill | sec | Maximum of 0 or 175 − (minutes × 25) |
Examples for every discipline
Long JumpThe distance is compared with the dog’s own height.See example
Calculation
Distance ÷ dog height × 10
Example
450 cm ÷ 45 cm × 10 = 100.00 points
The dog has seven minutes to record its best valid distance. The poles must remain in place.
High JumpA jump is rewarded relative to the size of the dog.See example
Calculation
Jump height ÷ dog height × 20
Example
180 cm ÷ 45 cm × 20 = 80.00 points
The dog has seven minutes. The successful height is recorded after the required two-second hold.
A-FrameEvery completed turn from the three attempts contributes.See example
Calculation
Attempt 1 + attempt 2 + attempt 3
Example
40 + 42 + 38 turns = 120.00 points
Three one-minute attempts are added together, with the prescribed rest between attempts.
HangtimeA longer valid hang time produces more points.See example
Calculation
Minutes × 5
Example
12 minutes × 5 = 60.00 points
The recorded hang time is converted to minutes for scoring. The standard maximum is twenty minutes.
TrackmillMore completed turns during the event time produce more points.See example
Calculation
Completed turns = points
Example
62 turns = 62.00 points
The dog has seven minutes to record its best number of turns on the fixed Trackmill setup.
Sprint 50 mA faster 50 metre time leaves more points.See example
Calculation
Maximum of 0 or 50 − (seconds × 2)
Example
50 − (5.00 s × 2) = 40.00 points
One timed 50 metre run. A false start adds two seconds.
Sprint 100 mA faster 100 metre time leaves more points.See example
Calculation
Maximum of 0 or 100 − seconds
Example
100 − 7.00 s = 93.00 points
One timed 100 metre run. A false start adds two seconds.
Sprint 350 mA faster 350 metre time leaves more points.See example
Calculation
Maximum of 0 or 150 − seconds
Example
150 − 24.00 s = 126.00 points
One timed 350 metre run. A false start adds two seconds.
HurdleA faster valid Hurdle time leaves more points.See example
Calculation
Maximum of 0 or 50 − (seconds × 2)
Example
50 − (5.00 s × 2) = 40.00 points
A timed Hurdle result is converted to points by the competition scoring rule.
Hedge JumpThe valid height is scaled against the dog’s measured height.See example
Calculation
Jump height ÷ dog height × 40
Example
100 cm ÷ 40 cm × 40 = 100.00 points
The dog has seven minutes to record its best valid height. The poles must remain in place.
WallclimbThe climb is compared with the dog’s own height.See example
Calculation
Climb height ÷ dog height × 20
Example
250 cm ÷ 50 cm × 20 = 100.00 points
The dog has seven minutes to record its best height and complete the required two-second bite without handler assistance.
Wooden WallThe climb is compared with the dog’s own height.See example
Calculation
Climb height ÷ dog height × 20
Example
250 cm ÷ 50 cm × 20 = 100.00 points
The dog has seven minutes. Both front legs must pass the wall beyond the elbows for the height to count.
SlatmillA faster one-kilometre time leaves more points.See example
Calculation
Maximum of 0 or 175 − (minutes × 25)
Example
175 − (2.50 min × 25) = 112.50 points
The dog completes one kilometre as quickly as possible and must finish within seven minutes to score.
